ORS, Division of Occupational Health and Safety
Aside from human blood, the Bloodborne Pathogen Standard recognizes that pathogens infectious to humans are or may be present in
- human body fluids
- primary human cell culture
- unfixed human tissue or organs
- culture media or solutions containing any pathogen that may be infectious in blood
- HIV containing cell or tissue cultures
- animals experimentally infected with a human pathogen
Many human pathogens can be infectious in blood. The Standard, however, only specifically names HIV and Hepatitis B & C viruses.
